About Temple Beth Israel

Temple Beth IsraelWe are thankful to report that Temple Beth Israel continues to be the center of Jewish life and activity in the North Country. The Temple offers many opportunities to share in a rich spiritual-life and a warm and welcoming community.  This year alone, Temple Beth Israel sponsored a remarkable array of programs and activities, among them:

 - A variety of regular Shabbat liturgies, including a monthly family/intergenerational service.

 - A weekly Torah study group and a variety of short courses on Jewish issues and topics.

 - Kindergarten through Confirmation religious school

 - B'nai Mitzvah preparation and services

 - Holiday celebrations such as the Hanukkah, Pesach and Tu Bishvat Seders, Purim blowout festival, as well as a special Yom Ha-Shoah observance

 - Opportunities to participate in social action, including the Interfaith Hospitality Network, Interfaith Council, Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf and CROP Walk

 - A variety of social and holiday events sponsored by the Women of Reform Judaism and the Men's Group

 - Sunday brunch programs and discussions on topical issues ranging from the arts to current events

 - A library of Jewish books and periodicals for adults and children

And we are developing much more!  There are ample opportunities to participate in the life of the synagogue. In addition to taking part in the programs above, you might consider hosting an Oneg Shabbat to celebrate a simcha (birthday, anniversary, graduation, new job, etc.) or observe a yahrzeit; serving on a committee of interest; teaching in the Religious School; reading Torah; leading services; assisting with a holiday dinner; or otherwise sharing your time and talents. If you'd like a bit of training or mentoring in these or other areas, we'll be delighted to arrange it. The more active you are, the more meaningful and valuable your membership becomes - and the more vibrant our Jewish community!
